It's All Virtual

I co-authored an article that was published in the Dell PowerEdge magazine in March 2004. The article discusses the development of Dell's OMSA (System Management Agents) on a VMware ESX server. I helped developed the first OMSA agents for ESX 1.5.2.

During my initial testing with VC 1.0 I managed to successfully VMotion a running Virtual Machine over 47,000 times. Since then I've been able to run VMotion on a VM every minute on the minute for over three months straight. Take a look at the attached screen shot, I was able to migrate a single VM over 100,000 times. Cool part was I also completed an ESX & VirtalCenter upgrade during the three months and the VM never went off line.

This is a diagram of a basic VMware ESX server farm. This architect has been developed by me over the past three years. The design is a combination of my experience deploying ESX servers into production environments and VMware best practices for ESX and VirtualCenter deployments. Although the diagram is showing HP servers and EMC storage the design is not specific to any hardware vendor. Any hardware that is listed on VMware HAL will do.
